Spell-check has made us complacent about editing, and it shows. Just take a look:

Owed to a Spell Chequer*

I halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plane lee marques four my revue
Miss steaks aye ken knot sea
Eye ran this poem threw it
Your sure reel glad two no
It's vary polished in it's weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

See what I mean?  Hope so.  ;-)

Seriously, every writer needs an editor. Why? Because real-live, human editors catch those misused words, put the apostrophe in the right place, dial the phone number on the back cover, and ask questions when something doesn’t make sense. Don’t be the company that makes it “plane two sea” that you skimped on editing.
